I attend a men’s fellowship group and we are currently working through a series called Man in the Mirror. The discussion this past week was on Stewardship. The conversation in my small group revolved around the idea that God wants all of us, everything we have to offer. Our time, talents and treasures.
We are conditioned to think of stewardship simply as our tithe. You know, your tithe, the 10% that we should give that is preached to us in the annual sermon on giving. Considering the big picture, God is not interested in our 10%. He appreciates it, but that is not what He requires of us.
Stewardship is about us giving everything to Him.
One of the interesting comments that came from our discussion was that it’s easy to dismiss the idea that we can give everything to God. We can’t possibly give God all of our time and resources because we are by nature, sinful beings. We are separated from God because we have sin in our lives so it is impossible for us, in this world, to give everything to God and become one with him.
What God wants is for it to be our hearts desire to give him everything. He wants us to try our best to live daily for Him using the time, talents and treasures that He has blessed us with.
As I considered the idea of stewardship and prayed for direction in my life, it dawned on me that this is part of the holiness process. If we commit our all to God then He will bless us in ways we can’t imagine. If we are pursuing holiness, it will be a natural desire of our heart to give our all to God and be good stewards with our time, talents and treasures.
I have a much deeper appreciation for what it means to be a good steward with more than just my money. Are you being a good steward.

I think it was through stewardship that I really discovered how holiness can be attainable. Both my husband and I love to testify about how God has blessed us – through our tithe (unimaginable grace we have been given), our time (God blesses us continully as we give our time to Him) and our talents (when you use your talents for God, life is so much more fun!). Holiness has become a passion of mine – both as a personal goal and journey and as something to talk about. Thanks for being a witness – we just don’t talk about holiness enough!!
Blessings!

PS…. I never got to meet your dad, but I remember my brother-in-law talking about what your dad taught about and being intrigued (this was years ago). I look forward to hearing more through this website! =)

Thanks for the comment. Having an outlet to write about my experiences has caused me to be more reflective and aware of God’s moving in my life. This has especially been the case with respect to being a good steward and seeing how God has blessed me in subtle and dramatic fashions.
Best wishes to you and your family as you continue to serve him and seek holiness.
