“Restore to me the joy of Your salvation and sustain with me a willing spirit.”    Psalm 51:12

I am not sure how you react when there is a new challenge in front of you, but I LOVE the beginning of things. For me it’s an exciting and thrilling moment. For example, the beginning of a bible study; the start of a do-it-yourself home project; or maybe even a project for work that you are stoked about. That feeling at the beginning of something is exhiliarating and is flush with adrenaline and anticipation.

Now. Think of the feeling that comes about half way through the project when you just can not be bothered to continue with the prescribed course of action; that moment where you say, “why in the world did I decide to do this, why did I make the commitment to this thing’.  Sometimes that is where we find ourselves in our experience with grace. We are so pumped to get saved, to be on fire for Jesus, to save the world, and then something happens. Maybe we get distracted by ‘the world’, or we get discouraged by ‘people’, or overwhelmed with the ‘business’, or we are just plain lazy and do not want to make an effort. Friends, I just want to encourage you today to pray that God would ‘sustain you with a willing spirit’ in your walk with the Lord. When you are willing, God will do amazing things in your life. Miraculous signs, sea parting, raise from the dead sort of things.

If you are feeling discouraged, depressed, mistreated, misunderstood, or just plain unmotivated, get on board with THE life giving power of the Holy Spirit. Seriously. If you want to be recharged and excited, just ask the Lord for a willing Spirit. HE WILL DO IT!!!

So, there ya go. That’s the holiness prayer. “Sustain with me a willing spirit.”

Heralding the Good News,

catherine
