“Let this be written for a future generation, that a people not yet created may praise the LORD.” Psalm 102:18

Beth Moore inspired the following thoughts, from her study “Believing God”, and I highly recommend it to both men and women. She says, “We all are responsible to the next generation, even if we don’t have children.” Have you ever thought about your responsibility to the next generation? Your example, or the impressions you make on young ones? Wow.

When I hear that phrase, “responsibility to the next generation” my mind mixes with star trek images and then it goes straight to the green initiative (which I support), but let’s change our thinking and consider our spiritual responsibility to the next generation. What kind of legacy are we leaving for the kids we have the opportunity to influence? Are they going to remember me as that cranky lady who took away their toys, or the woman who showed them love and compassion and grace? Moreover, it is not even about how I am remembered, but about the glorification of God through my life. Now that’s holiness. When I look back at my life, what will I leave as markers of what God has done in my life (Joshua 4:14)?

One of the great prizes my siblings and I have from my father’s legacy is a record of personal journals, and bibles he specifically marked for us that chronicle his spiritual journey. It is a treasure of information that has encouraged and convicted us through the years. I say this just to point out how significant it has been to me – so my question to you is: Are you leaving a record of God’s greatness in your life and are you taking responsibility for making a spiritual impact on the next generation?

I am SO proud to be a part of a spiritual heritage of the kingdom and the legacy of Jesus Christ and the saints who have gone before me! What a privilege it is to share that with others – so I challenge you today to write, to speak, and to live out the heritage that we claim – the love and sacrifice of Jesus Christ!
