Colossians 3:12-14 (NLT)
Since God chose you to be the holy people whom he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. You must make allowance for each other’s faults and forgive the person who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. And the most important piece of clothing you must wear is love. Love is what binds us all together in perfect harmony.
There is this one little boy at my church who loves to where camouflage pants and combat boots. He always looks ready for war. His camouflage however, does not help him blend into the environment at church – there is no jungle terrain or desert battlefield. Yet, in the battlefield of this world, the Holy Spirit does give us a sort of camouflage to fight the good fight.
While it doesn’t necessarily make sense to wear camouflage clothes to church or to school or wherever we go – it does make sense to wear the camouflage of Christ. As it says in Colossians 3:12 – “Since God chose you to be the holy people whom he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience”.
We are to clothe ourselves with characteristics that honor God! That means loving your enemies, and being patient, and kind, and humble. It even means giving God control of your life. If we are going to be witnesses in this dark and evil world, then it is essential that we are clothed with the camouflage of Christ.
In the message Bible John 15:19 says: “If you lived on the world’s terms, the world would love you as one of its own. But since I picked you to live on God’s terms and no longer on the world’s terms, the world is going to hate you.” Do not worry about the world hating you, for God loves you, and the camouflage of Christ will help you in all you do.
Do you have your camouflage gear? God gives us his graceful camouflage so that when we are blending in with the world that we represent the Holy Father. Our camouflage is different- we don’t just blend in with the scenery, we actually change the scenery.
Pray that today the Lord will clothe you with his love and change the scenery around you from being dirty, ugly, and sad to something beautiful, glorious, and God honoring.
